The Blue Hills has 7000 Acres ranging from Quincy to Dedham, and Milton to Randolph. the hills reach heights of 635 ft. there are 125 miles of hiking trails, and you can see the entire Metropolitan area. Its a great place to spend the day with the family hiking, exploring, and having a picnic in the tower at the top of the hill.
There is a history behind these hills, they were named by early European explorers. while they were sailing the coast line they noticed the blueish hue on the slopes and so they are now called the Blue Hills. 10 thousand years before the Europeans arrived a native american tribe called the hills there home. there tribe name was people of the great hills. so for thousands of years these hills have been home to are ancestors, and how we can explore them freely.
This park has many sights to see among the views the hills are home to many natural phenomena's from coyotes to copperheads, dogwoods to lady slippers, and turkey vultures to dragon flies. The trails go through forests, marsh, swamps, ponds, meadows, and an Atlantic white cedar bog. You may even see some rare and endangered species like the timber rattle snake.
This park is like Mary Poppins bag it never runs out of stuff to do. For instance besides hiking, biking, and exploring you have many more activities and programs that you can do. Like camping, fishing, golfing, horseback riding, rock climbing, picnicking, and many more. There is a educational program and blue hill observatory and science center, and a museum that exhibits live animals. plus they have a dog sled fun run, a to much turkey walk, a pilgrim memorial,and a lot more events to come check out.
